So, 311 have another album out! How did I miss that? This is their 9th studio release, which you have to give them credit for. They are survivors. They also have a habit of their odd-numbered albums being much better than the even-numbered ones, so they are due a good one. 311 have always been a guilty pleasure, but with each new album I tend to have an anticipatory cringe at the ready when I press play for the first time. Uplifter certainly isn’t the worst album 311 have put out (a position shared by both ‘From Chaos’ and ‘Don’t Tread on Me’) but it is also far from the best. There were still a few cringe moments, like the chorus of ‘Something Out Of Nothing’. The juvenile lyrics are still there, and they seem to find a way to kill a good beat with a horrendous chorus, but there are some gems to be found… if you are a 311 sympathizer that is, I would steer clear otherwise!
