Pay-Per-Step
The gym where I do my rehab has a window that runs alongside the pool. While I am doing my lengths I tend to watch the people walking by outside and try and pick the gym goers. I also like to wave at nosy people who stop to watch people in the pool. Only occasionally do they wave back.
Last week I spotted two girls walking purposefully, already dressed in gym clothes. They were power-walking too, so I knew they were serious and sure enough, they walked into the gym. Since they were all ready to go, they signed in and went straight to the equipment and right on to the running machines… where they proceeded to walk, not run, and chat for the next half hour.
Now, this gym I go to is not the cheapest, but it is the only one in town with a pool. When you need to use a pool for rehab there aren’t a lot of alternatives. But walking? I walked for longer just to get to the pool! There are plenty of parks around Adelaide where walking and chatting is free.
Now, I could perhaps understand if they used the showers or any other facilities at the gym, but as soon as they were done they power-walked off again. Maybe it’s a girl thing, or maybe I am just a tightwad, but it really baffled me. Ah well, it was a nice alternative to waving at strangers to keep myself amused.
