Marvel was bought by Disney today. This is a big deal and will have implications throughout the entire entertainment industry, from movies to theme parks. Existing contracts mean that we aren’t likely to see too many changes in the near future, but this will cause major changes over the next decade.
Marvel is finally turning out decent movies, so I hope that Disney doesn’t mess up the good thing they have going on. Warner Bros has been pretty useless in bringing their DC catalogue to the screen, but I suspect that is a WB only problem as other studios have had good successes. Disney also have experience with Pixar in running an essentially independent studio in-house.
Ultimately we have no other choice but to wait and see how this turns out, although the picture above (and the thread it links to) represent the worst possible scenario.
