I went to a preview screening of (500) Days of Summer last night courtesy of the Contagious Network. Now, normally I would avoid chick flicks like the plague, but like the intro says, this is not a love story.
At least, not conventionally. The normal pattern of these things is boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, boy loses girl, boy overcomes obstacles to prove love to girl, boy and girl live happily ever after. The structure of this film is such that we enter the story about half way through (boy loses girl) and then jump back and forth throughout their relationship. In addition to that, the underlying story doesn’t follow the genre conventions and is far more interesting for it.
The film is currently pulling about 87% at Rotten Tomatoes, which puts it right up there with the top films of the  year. It is easily the best (non)romantic comedy I have seen in a long time. To say anything more would ruin the suprises that it throws at you. Go into this one blind and you will be rewarded.
And to top it all off, the soundtrack is fantastic.
