One last story before bed. We caught up with Brendan, Kane and his new girlfriend Sarah last night at a bar called La Zeppa’s (at least I think it was, I drank a lot). Not long after we sat down, I noticed a girl sitting at the next table kept staring at me. I shifted around so she couldn’t see me, but she would shift too and keep staring. It was kinda weird.
But it got weirder. Eventually she got drunk enough to ask me “How do you know me?”. I pointed out how conceited that was, and she rephrased “I feel like I know you. How would we know each other?”. At this stage I pointed out I was living in Australia, I was recently married, and that the beautiful woman sitting next to me was my wife. I even held up my hand and pointed at my ring. She just held up and pointed at her own. Damn, there goes that plan.
She eventually got so drunk she came and joined our table. She sat right next to me and leaned right over to whisper how hot my wife was and how Michelle is the hottest girl in the bar, all while rubbing up and down my leg. I was leaning so far away from her I was almost sitting in Brendan’s lap.
Somehow we figured out that we worked at the same company 8 or 9 years ago, although I have zero recollection of her. Her name was Kim Duncan, and she works in sales, so I nicknamed her ‘Slam’ Duncan. She wasn’t impressed. When I asked her how her marriage was going, she told me she’d been married for 3 weeks and was going to leave him for a man who made her breathless. I debated the merits of dating someone who made you stop breathing, but she was too far gone to see my point.
I should also point out that she was at the bar with another man, who was wearing a t-shirt with “1+1+1” on the front. I could see where this evening was heading and I didn’t like it, so we left Slam Duncan behind, grabbed some beers and took Brendan back to our hotel room for some tickling and pillow fights… but that is another story!
